Lash Q&A

Can I still wear makeup?

The beauty of eyelash extensions is that you do not need to wear mascara!
Most clients also find they no longer have to wear top lid eyeliner either as the thicker darker lash line now replaces the liner they used to apply.
Should you wear other eye make up you will need to remove it an oil free product. Oil-free eyeliner is recommended. You will be able to get these products directly from your lash artist.

How long to eyelash extensions last?

A full set of Flutter eyelash extensions can last up to 4 weeks, without the use of mascara!

With maintenance of touch up procedures they can last indefinitely, yes you never have to go without them!

The longevity of your lash extensions is not only determined by the skill of your lash artist, but also the speed and stage that your lash cycle in when your lash extensions are applied as well as how you take care of your extensions. Excessive rubbing of your eyes and sleeping on your face can cause your natural eyelashes and therefore your extensions to fall out prematurely.

How often do you need to go for fills?

To maintain your Flutters you should have them filled every 3 to 6 weeks all depending on the look you desire. It is advised to book your fill 2 weeks before you need your appointment. If you do not wish to maintain your lashes you may also let them fall out naturally and when and if they look odd or uneven you can either blend with mascara or come in to have the last few removed at no charge. PLEASE do not pull out your lash extensions as you will pull out your natural lashes causing damage to the root follicle.

What is a lash cycle?

Natural lashes shed in a replenishing cycle every 60 to 90 days. When a natural lash matures and falls out, a new lash is already growing to replace the old without us noticing the turnover. This process is constant and at any time our many natural lashes are at different stages of maturity. You lose natural lashes everyday however this is far more noticeable to you once you have lash extensions, as they are now darker and thicker making them much more visible when they do fall out.

I have sensitive eyes is this a problem?

Eyelash extensions are the perfect alternative for people who are sensitive or allergic to eye makeup.

It is important for both sensitive and non-sensitive clients to keep your eyes closed throughout the procedure. It is important to inform your lash artist of your sensitivity so she can be more cautious and prepare your eye with a suitable lubricating eye drop.

Do I need a break from lash extensions?

With relief No! As long as your lash artist is conservative in length and thickness in relation to your natural lash it is safe to continue your fills without concern. If you maintain lash extensions on a monthly basis all year round it is advisable to use a lash conditioning growth serum
like Md lash to keep your natural lashes strong and healthy. The healthier your natural lashes are the longer your extensions will last. The longer your natural lashes are the longer your extension can be.

How long do fills take?

Fills are 60, 75 or 90 mins. The time chosen and booked depends the interval since your last appointment and the fullness you prefer as well as your time available and finances. We can advise what can work best for you and your lifestyle.

Can I be allergic to the eyelash extension adhesive?

Like all cosmetic products, there are some individuals who may be allergic to eyelash extension adhesive. Allergic reactions are rare as the adhesive does not come into contact with the skin. Although reactions are uncommon they do occur and can easily be treated. Symptoms normally subside as soon as they are medically treated or worst case the extensions are removed. If you have extreme latex/band-aid allergies, you may be at higher risk of a reaction. If you have previously experienced an allergic reaction to any eyelash or nail extensions before please speak to us before booking your appointment.

Should you ever experience an allergy of any proportion please inform your lash artist, call us or mail Melissa@fluttereyelash.co.za.

How do I remove my eyelash extensions?

They will fall out naturally over 6 weeks. Alternatively you can have them gently removed in 10mins by your Flutter lash Artist. Do not pull them out as this will damage and pull out your natural eyelashes.
